TYPESPRY PRACTICE GUIDE

# Free typing speed tests

Check your speed. Understand your accuracy. Choose a useful next step.

Typespry is a free online typing test and practice website. Start with a timed English test, read your words-per-minute score alongside accuracy, and review the mistakes behind the result. You can practice as a guest; creating an account is optional.

**Start with one minute.**

## Choose a test length that fits your goal

The timer begins on your first text input. Settle your hands, read the beginning of the prompt, and type it as shown. The preset lengths are 15, 30, 60 and 120 seconds. Custom time accepts a whole number from 10 to 600 seconds, so a longer session can last up to ten minutes.

- [15 seconds](https://typespry.com/?mode=time&seconds=15#test) gives a short check of your starting rhythm.
- [30 seconds](https://typespry.com/?mode=time&seconds=30#test) is a convenient repeatable practice session.
- [60 seconds](https://typespry.com/?practice=minute#test) gives you time to notice recurring pauses. Read the [one-minute test guide](https://typespry.com/typing-test/one-minute/).
- [120 seconds](https://typespry.com/?mode=time&seconds=120#test) lets you observe how well you sustain the same pace.

A short burst and a longer session measure different tasks. Compare attempts with the same duration, vocabulary, punctuation and number settings.

## What your typing result means

WPM is a standardized character-based measurement. Typespry counts characters that match the prompt in your final input, divides by five, then divides by elapsed minutes. The displayed score is rounded. Correctly matching 250 characters in one minute produces 50 WPM.

Raw WPM uses all characters left in the input, including errors. Accuracy measures correct character attempts as a percentage of all character attempts. Backspace repairs the text, but it does not erase an earlier incorrect attempt from accuracy. The [WPM and accuracy guide](https://typespry.com/guides/understanding-wpm/) explains the calculation.

## Choose your English word set

Everyday English is a useful starting point. Expanded English and Advanced English broaden the vocabulary, while Programming focuses on technical terms. Punctuation and Numbers can be switched on for timed and word-count practice. Keep these settings consistent when measuring a change in speed.

## Use the result to plan another session

Review the pace chart and incorrect attempts before choosing another test. Practice missed words builds a focused session from the words you mistyped. Retry same text repeats the prompt; Go again prepares another run. The Restart button remains available in the typing area.

For untimed text, use [word, passage or code practice](https://typespry.com/typing-practice/). For a particular difficulty, try [typing drills](https://typespry.com/typing-drills/). Results describe personal practice; they are not verified certificates or employment assessments.

## Do I need an account?

No. Guest progress stays in this browser. An optional account syncs saved progress between devices when connected. Preferences stay on the device. Read the [Typespry FAQ](https://typespry.com/guides/typespry-faq/) for results, account and privacy questions.

## Choose the next test with a purpose

For three-, five- or ten-minute sessions, read [the Custom time guide](https://typespry.com/guides/custom-typing-test-duration/). Before comparing two results, use [the WPM and settings checklist](https://typespry.com/guides/compare-typing-test-scores/). For a manageable routine, follow [the seven-day typing practice plan](https://typespry.com/guides/seven-day-practice/).
