TYPESPRY PRACTICE GUIDE

Learn to type with six focused lessons

Build a comfortable foundation, one small movement at a time.

Typespry's Learn section provides six free typing lessons. Start with the home row, practice reaching to other rows, then bring words, capitals, punctuation and numbers into your routine. The goal is a clean, repeatable attempt at 95% accuracy rather than a particular speed.

What each lesson covers

  1. Meet the home row. Practice A S D F and J K L ;. Use the raised bumps on F and J to find your starting position without looking down.
  2. Reach for the top row. Explore Q W E R T and Y U I O P. Reach from the home row and return with a small, relaxed movement.
  3. Explore the bottom row. Work on Z X C V B and N M , . /. Keep your hands near their starting position as your fingers reach.
  4. Words in rhythm. Bring common words into a steady pace and practice reading a little ahead.
  5. Shift your perspective. Practice Shift, capitals and punctuation. Give an unfamiliar symbol enough time.
  6. Numbers that count. Work on the number row and number-containing text. Accuracy remains more useful than a hurried score.

Find a starting position you can return to

Place your left fingers on A S D F and your right fingers on J K L ;. Keep your thumbs near the space bar. After reaching for a key, return to the home row. Keep your shoulders relaxed and pause when you feel tired.

The touch typing basics guide explains these positions in more detail. Follow the lesson prompt rather than trying to memorize a speed target.

How lesson progress works

Complete the displayed prompt to reach the result card. The lesson catalog records your attempts and best accuracy. A completed lesson is marked when you meet its 95% accuracy goal. You can repeat a lesson, and the result card offers the next lesson after the target is met when another lesson remains.

Correcting the text with Backspace does not remove an earlier error from the accuracy calculation. A clean first attempt and an attempt with many corrections can therefore have different accuracy even when their final text looks the same.

Move between lessons and real text

Use a lesson to isolate a movement, then try words or passage practice to apply it in context. If one transition keeps causing trouble, review Progress and choose Weak keys or Weak patterns. Those drills use saved statistics when enough relevant data is available.

The seven-day practice plan alternates lessons, text and review. Repeating a day is fine; improvement does not follow a guaranteed timetable.

Can I learn without signing in?

Yes. Lessons work for guests, with progress saved in this browser. An optional account can sync saved lessons and practice results across devices. Preferences remain local. Check the account and progress answers before changing devices or clearing browser storage.
