TYPESPRY PRACTICE GUIDE
Typespry questions, answered
The details behind your practice, results and saved progress.
Typespry is a free typing practice website with speed tests, six lessons, three daily challenges, focused drills and personal progress tracking. These answers describe how the current application works.
Typing tests and scores
Is Typespry free, and do I need an account?
All current practice features are free. You can type as a guest without creating an account. Guest progress is stored in this browser. An optional account can sync saved progress across devices; practice preferences stay on each device.
How long is a typing test?
Timed tests offer 15, 30, 60 and 120-second presets. Custom time accepts 10–600 whole seconds. Words mode offers 10, 25, 50 or 100 words. Word, passage, code and custom-text tests end when your input reaches the prompt length. The timer begins on your first text input.
How does Typespry calculate WPM?
It counts characters matching the prompt in the final input, divides by five, divides by elapsed minutes, then rounds to a whole number. Matching 250 characters in 60 seconds gives 50 WPM. Raw WPM uses all characters left in the input, including errors. See the scoring explanation.
Why can corrected text still have less than 100% accuracy?
Accuracy measures correct character attempts as a percentage of all character attempts. Backspace fixes the text but does not remove an earlier incorrect attempt from this calculation. Corrected mistakes are also marked in the result review.
Are these verified certificates or employment test results?
No. Typespry scores are for personal practice. They do not verify identity or certify professional typing ability. Compare the same duration, vocabulary, punctuation, number settings and kind of device for a useful personal comparison.
Lessons, daily challenges and drills
What can I learn in the lessons?
The six lessons cover the home row, top row, bottom row, words in rhythm, Shift and punctuation, and numbers. The lesson accuracy goal is 95%, and you can repeat lessons.
Why might a friend have different daily challenge text?
Daily challenges use the local date on your device. Different time zones can mean different dates. Compare the same challenge, date and content version. An active session keeps its original challenge date when midnight passes.
How do the adaptive drills choose practice?
Weak words uses saved missed words and related patterns. Weak keys and Weak patterns use available key and character-transition statistics. Complete representative tests first if there is little saved data. The drill guide describes all eleven exercises.
Result cards and another attempt
What happens when I close the result card with ×?
Closing it with × prepares a fresh test in the current section and returns focus to the typing input. Go again also prepares another run. Retry same text repeats the completed prompt. Pressing Escape dismisses the card while preserving the completed attempt for review; View results reopens it. The Restart button prepares another test.
Can I save or share a result?
Copy result shares your score and test settings. Save result card downloads an image. The complete character review stays in memory for the current session, while missed words and aggregate typing statistics can be saved with your progress. Custom full text and account details are not included in a practice link.
Accounts, sync and privacy
What does the account status beside the test tell me?
Guests see that progress stays in the browser and signing in enables sync. Signed-in status reports whether progress is synced, pending, syncing, paused, or needs attention. During a test, sync can wait until the session finishes. If the status needs attention, open the account controls for details.
Where is my progress saved?
Guest progress stays in browser storage. Optional accounts use Supabase to sync saved practice progress. Preferences remain on the device. Progress has JSON backup and restore controls and a recent-session CSV export. Unsynced results can be lost if browser data is cleared. Read the privacy policy.
Is my custom text private?
The full custom passage stays in the current tab. Missed words or code tokens and aggregate key and pattern statistics can still be saved with your progress or synced to an account. Do not practice confidential material that you do not want included in those saved records.
How can I recover an account or report a problem?
Use password recovery for a new reset link. Visit Help and contact for backup instructions and available support options. For a bug report, include your browser, device, mode and reproduction steps. Never send a password or a password-reset link.
